HouseSync privacy overview
HouseSync can keep your household information on your device, or sync it with household members when you sign in and enable household sync.
Information on your device
When you use HouseSync without household sync, the duties, bills, budgets, household lists and preferences you enter are stored by the app on that device. Reminder choices and quiet hours are also saved on the device and are not part of the shared household snapshot.
Information sent for household sync
When you create or join a synced household, HouseSync sends its shared snapshot to the HouseSync Cloudflare Worker. The snapshot is stored in Cloudflare D1 and can include duties and their completion history, household member names, bills and budgets, shopping lists, activity, and household calendar or school schedule information. Signed-in household members can read and update the shared snapshot.
Household sync is optional. You can keep using a local household without signing in or enabling sync.
Account and sign-in information
If you create an account, the service stores your display name and email address. It stores a salted PBKDF2 password hash rather than your password, and a hash of each sign-in session token. The service also keeps limited attempt counters keyed to your email address or the IP address supplied with sign-in requests to slow repeated sign-in attempts.
Password reset emails contain a short-lived code. The service stores a hash of the code, which expires after 30 minutes. Reset emails are sent from no-reply@house-sync.app; replies go to support@house-sync.app.
Household access
Joining and syncing require a signed-in account and the household's shared code. Only signed-in members can read or change that household's snapshot. Share the code only with people you want in the household.
Account deletion
You can request account deletion in the app's settings. The service deletes that account's sign-in records and household memberships. HouseSync also clears the account's saved household data from that device. If other members remain, their shared household snapshot remains available to them; if the deleted account was the only member, that snapshot is deleted. A separate local-only household can be removed by clearing the app's data from the device.
Service provider
The HouseSync API and synced household snapshots run on Cloudflare services configured for HouseSync. The public website and Android app download are served by the HouseSync Worker. The website page itself does not load third-party scripts, fonts or analytics.
